Alan Ritchson’s nearly silent revenge thriller just hit a devastating roadblock in its second weekend at the box office. The action film’s sharp decline and massive theater cuts paint a grim picture for its theatrical run.

Motor City continues to struggle at the domestic box office in its second weekend. The Alan Ritchson-led action thriller earned just $271,544 in its sophomore frame, according to Box Office Mojo. The film dropped a steep 84% from its opening weekend gross of $1,693,905.
IFC Films also significantly reduced the film’s theater count from 1,600 to just 600 locations. That reduction of 1,000 screens contributed to a dismal per-theater average of only $452. The film’s cumulative domestic gross now stands at approximately $2.55 million after two weekends in release.
Motor City debuted at number nine on the domestic charts during its opening weekend. The revenge thriller slipped further to the 13th spot in its second weekend. Its total worldwide gross currently sits at roughly $2.69 million, with international markets contributing a minimal $133,021.

The film carries a reported production budget of $30 million. IFC Films acquired U.S. distribution rights for between $3 million and $4 million back in October 2025. The significant gap between its budget and current earnings signals a major financial disappointment for the distributor.
Directed by Potsy Ponciroli, the film features a notably sparse script with reportedly only five lines of dialogue. It premiered at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival in August 2025 before its U.S. theatrical release on July 24, 2026.
The film stars Ben Foster, Pablo Schreiber, Shailene Woodley, and Lionel Boyce alongside Ritchson. Critics gave it mixed-to-positive reviews, with a 62% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 63 out of 100 weighted average on Metacritic. The R-rated thriller runs one hour and 43 minutes.
