The Bravo host shared that his son Benjamin, 7, knows he has “a show” on TV and thinks he’s “funny”

Andy Cohen is sharing his son Benjamin’s take on his long career with Bravo.

While chatting with PEOPLE at the 34th annual Broadcasting+Cable Hall of Fame gala in New York City on Tuesday, Sept. 29, the TV personality, 58, revealed whether his kids know what he does for work.

“They know,” said Cohen, who welcomed Benjamin, 7, and daughter Lucy, 4, via surrogacy. “I mean, Ben knows that I have a show and he thinks I’m funny. And so if he thinks I’m funny, then that’s good for me.”

Cohen, who has worked for Bravo for more than 20 years, hosts the late-night talk show Watch What Happens Live on the network, as well as the reunion specials for all of the Real Housewives franchises.

The proud dad frequently shares glimpses of his family life with Ben and Lucy, particularly the more humorous sides of his parenting experience.

Back in 2024, Cohen shared that Ben had come up with a funny new way to ask fans to leave him alone in public.

“Ben goes, ‘The next time someone comes up to me and says, ‘Are you Andy Cohen?’ you know what I’m going to say?’ I go, ‘What?’ ” Cohen recalled. “He goes, ‘Get out of here!’ I said, ‘OK.’ And I made the mistake of laughing. And when you laugh, then that makes them think, ‘Oh, this is a good idea.’ So I said, ‘No, let’s workshop this.’ ”

“I go, ‘How about the next time someone comes up to you, you say, ‘He’s my daddy, can we have our privacy?’ I said that is the right way to do it,” he continued. “So then the second we have that, we walk three steps. Some guy comes up, ‘Hey, are you Andy Cohen? Can I have a selfie?’ Ben goes, ‘Get out of here!’ ”

Earlier this week, Cohen made waves when he revealed how much he pays his 23-year-old babysitter to watch his two kids — and was called “cheap” by his longtime friend Jeff Lewis.

During the Sept. 28 episode of Andy Cohen Live, Cohen and Lewis, who has one daughter, 9-year-old Monroe, were comparing how much they each pay their babysitters, and Cohen shared that he pays his sitter $30 an hour.

“That sounds cheap to me,” the Flipping Out alum said. “Especially from someone with your money. She was there for two hours, and you gave her 60 bucks? Did that even cover the cab?”

“I probably would’ve given her 100 for two hours, two kids,” added Lewis, who said he pays his babysitter $37 an hour.

Back in June, Cohen confirmed his relationship with boyfriend Kevin Sobieski on Radio Andyand shared how he approached introducing him to Ben and Lucy.

“This man is kind and strong and smart, and he’s an adult and he loves my children, and they love him and I love him,” he said. “And we have been so slow, and deliberate and methodical about getting to know each other and introducing him into the kids and just entering him into the equation of my family so slowly, and I have to say it has been so easy.”
