Angelina Jolie showcases her French speaking skills in the first trailer for Couture.

The Oscar winner stars in the first official trailer for the drama that had its world premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival in September.

In Couture, which takes place at Paris Fashion Week, Jolie plays a filmmaker going through a divorce who is diagnosed with breast cancer. She speaks both English and French in the film, as seen in the first footage that dropped on Tuesday, Jan. 6.

Jolie, 50, has previously spoken about her emotional connection to the film's subject matter.

The star's mom died at age 56 in 2007 from breast and ovarian cancer, and Jolie underwent a preventative double mastectomy in 2013 after a test indicated she had an increased risk of developing cancer.

"It's a very personal story for me," she told Time France in December, displaying her surgery scars on the cover of the magazine.

The mom of six said she "immediately felt a deep connection" to her Couture character and thought director Alice Winocour's "approach to illness is unique."

"Too often, films about women's struggles — especially cancer — talk about endings and sadness, rarely about life," said Jolie. "Alice has made a film about life, and that's precisely why the sensitive subjects it addresses are handled with such delicacy."

"Hardships, illnesses and pain are part of our existence, but what matters is how we face them," she continued. "For me, and for so many women who have experienced this, it was essential to remember that what allows us to get through these times is precisely life itself."

Jolie, who wears one of her late mom's necklaces onscreen in Couture, told Variety in September that she "felt very vulnerable" making the movie.

"I feel like it’s such a personal film,” she said at the time. “It felt so private that in my mind, it’s probably the one film that doesn’t feel like a film."

Couture is in French theaters Feb. 18. A U.S. release date has not yet been revealed.
