Brad Pitt broke up argument between ‘very method’ Shia LaBeouf and co-star on film

Scott Eastwood has revealed that he clashed with one of his co-stars on the set of 2014’s Fury – and that Brad Pitt had to break them up.
The actor, who is the son of recently retired director and star Clint Eastwood, looked back on the various dramas that plagued the set of David Ayer’s war film, which starred Pitt as an American tank commander during World War II.
In a new interview, Eastwood – who played the role of Sergeant Miles in the film – revealed that he confronted co-star Shia LaBeouf on set one day after becoming tired of his behaviour. The controversial actor, 40, famously practiced method acting while playing religious soldier Boyd “Bible” Swan, choosing to slash his own face with a knife and remove a tooth to make his character look more realistic.
Speaking on Dax Shephard’s Armchair Expert podcast on Monday (3 August), Eastwood admitted that it was “tough” working with LaBeouf.

“There was an incident that happened that I’ve talked about. Brad Pitt broke up a little tense moment,” he continued. “He was very Method. From what I recall, he pulled out one of his teeth before we even started shooting. He pulled out his tooth and then he cut himself and I remember thinking, ‘OK, this guy’s crazy. I’m just going to keep clear from this guy because I don’t play this game. You go and do that but there’s plenty of ways to do a performance in a movie and be professional.’”

Eastwood added that he eventually came to blows with LaBeouf, with the latter having a problem with Eastwood “spitting tobacco on the tank”, which was in the script. “Then finally I just said, ‘Enough’s enough.’ I said, ‘Hey, f*** you. Stop pulling your s***. I’m going to whoop your ass,’” Eastwood said. “He got froggy and then everyone broke it up.”
While discussing Method acting, Eastwood made his opinions clear on going to the extremes that LaBeouf did on set. “Everybody’s contributing, everyone’s doing a thing but you can’t stop the train. It’s a moving train. Grow the f*** up. The director wants you to do something. If it’s something crazy then maybe that’s too far but be a collaborative,” he said.
“Everyone had moments with Shia that were I think were going to come to blows or not.”
The Independent has contacted LaBeouf’s representatives for comment.
LaBeouf is no stranger to film set altercations, with the actor clashing with director Francis Ford Coppola while filming 2024’s Megalopolis. Coppola recently made it clear that they had buried the hatchet however, writing on Instagram in July that LaBeouf is “a great and interesting actor to work with”.
In February, LaBeouf was arrested for allegedly attacking two bartenders while at Mardi Gras in New Orleans. In June, he pleaded guilty to three counts of simple battery, with video showing a shirtless LaBeouf shoving a person to the ground and hitting another person in the face, “causing his nose to possibly dislocate”, according to a New Orleans police report.
