Daveigh Chase, best known as Lilo's voice in Lilo and Stitch and Samara Morgan in The Ring, recently passed away. The former child star suffered from health issues during the period leading up to her untimely death.
Daveigh Chase passes away at 35
Daveigh Chase passed away on June 16, 2026. She was 35 years old at the time of her death.
Chase's boyfriend, Roy Hernandez, confirmed her death to TMZ. He revealed that she succumbed to meningitis and a blood infection. The latter resulted in septic issues that impacted her body and shut it down. Moreover, the outlet reported that the former actress was admitted to a hospital earlier this month due to malnutrition.
Hernandez set up a GoFundMe page for financial support, where he highlighted her troubled childhood and the bullying she faced. In it, he said Chase's condition became "critical," adding that doctors informed him she did "not have much time left." He continued, "All she ever wanted was a place where we could live together, feel safe, and be happy. Now, more than ever, I want to give her that sense of home and peace in her final days."

However, the fundraiser's launch and Hernandez's existence sparked suspicion and concerns among Chase's friends. The Lilo & Stitch actress's longtime friend and former manager told the outlet, "A man claiming to be Daveigh's boyfriend has launched a GoFundMe page purportedly on behalf of Daveigh and her family. Neither her family nor her close friends know who this person is."
"She was the greatest. She loved cats. She worked with cat rescues with us. She was very to herself, " said John Ryan Jr, Chase's friend and manager of 15 years. "She was not very Hollywood," he added. "She'd rather eat at Bob's Big Boy and go home with the cats. She loved acting but wasn't into the fame scene."
Outside of Lilo and Stitch and The Ring, Chase gained recognition for her roles in Donnie Darko and the English dub of Studio Ghibli's Spirited Away. She later appeared in a supporting capacity in the HBO drama Big Love and starred in S. Darko, Jack Goes Home, and American Romance before retiring from the acting industry.
