Fans hoping for a closer look at Tom Cruise's transformative performance in *Digger* just got a sweet surprise.

Warner Bros. has unveiled a glimpse of the actor's collaboration with director Alejandro G. Iñárritu via a retrospective montage that explores the highlights of Cruise's 40-year screen career, including a surprise sneak peek at what might be his most over-the-top performance yet.

In the brief teaser of what has been described as a "comedy of catastrophic proportions," Cruise's Digger Rockwell attempts to hype himself up to deliver the "hard truth" to a roomful of people.

"When all else fails, you hit 'em with the truth," the elderly billionaire says to himself — showing off some of Cruise's accent work — as he paces back and forth in what looks like an office with a sole security guard as his company. "Hit 'em with the hard truth. Just bang, bang, bang! Whoo! Whoo!"

Other clips show Digger entering a stark white room filled with people shouting at him, the same people who are later shown in an all-out brawl; several fighter jets flying through the sky; Digger jumping into a split while three others look on; and Digger holding out his arms in a room as a fire builds up behind a curtain.

Per a synopsis, the film will follow Digger, "the most powerful man in the world," as he attempts to prove he is "humanity's savior" before the disaster he unleashed "destroys everything."

*Digger* also stars John Goodman, Jesse Plemons, Sandra Hüller, Riz Ahmed, Emma D'Arcy, Sophie Wilde, and Michael Stuhlbarg.

D'Arcy recently shared their experience working alongside Cruise with ** for a *House of the Dragon* digital cover story.

"It's sort of unparalleled, and Tom Cruise is phenomenal," D'Arcy said. "I'm very excited. I haven't seen it, but I knew while I was in the room that something incredibly special was happening. I would've gone there and shot nothing. I would've been happy just to stand at the door and ogle at that process."

The *House of the Dragon* star described the experience of working with Cruise as "one of those career moments where the whole time it's happening, you can't believe it."

They added, "I had my notebook with me, and anytime that I wasn't shooting, I was just trying to make notes about how Alejandro [and] Tom were working, about that process, about the extraordinary rigor that Alejandro brings to every element of his work."

*Digger* marks Cruise's first film outside the *Mission: Impossible* or *Top Gun* franchises since 2017, when he starred in *American Made* and *The Mummy*. It's also his first collaboration with four-time Oscar winner Iñárritu.

The film is Iñárritu's first since directing 2022's *Bardo: False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths* for Netflix, and his first English-language film since 2015's *The Revenant*.

"All I can say is it is a brutal, wild comedy of catastrophic proportions. It's insane. It's scary and funny and beautiful. I know comedy is not what people expect from me, or Tom, and making this film was terrifying for me," Iñárritu told Deadline Hollywood at the Cannes Film Festival in May. "But I don't like to repeat myself, and every film should scare you a little. I felt *Birdman* was a comedy, a dark comedy, and this one was challenging like that."

He added, "Tom makes me laugh every single day. The range that I discovered working with Tom is unprecedented for me as a director. I was so f‑‑‑ing impressed and happy."
