Trump Media’s Truth API gives Wall Street firms early access to President Donald Trump’s social media posts. The subscription service costs up to $100,000 per month, letting hedge funds and investment banks see posts milliseconds before the public. NPR’s Bobby Allyn reported that this head start carries enormous financial implications for high-frequency traders.
Allyn explained the stakes during a PBS NewsHour interview on August 4. “The difference of a few milliseconds could be tens of millions of dollars easily,” he said. Trump regularly uses Truth Social to announce developments about the war in Iran, economic news, and government contracts. These posts frequently move financial markets in significant ways.

The Trump Media Company defends the service by calling the posts “public information.” However, former SEC enforcers strongly disagree with that characterization. Allyn noted that experts consider early-access posts “the definition of material nonpublic information.” One Wall Street executive told him directly about the arrangement. “If this was any other administration, this would be considered criminal,” the executive said.
President Trump remains the largest shareholder in Truth Social’s parent company. His son Don Jr. controls the company through a trust arrangement. Major firms like Citadel, Goldman Sachs and J.P. Morgan have not publicly confirmed subscriptions. Allyn’s sources suggest banks fear landing “in the crosshairs of President Trump.” They also worry about potential SEC probes under a future administration.
Legal scholars add another layer to the controversy surrounding the service. Some argue that every presidential Truth Social post constitutes an official government record. Allyn highlighted this distinction clearly during his reporting. “He is basically monetizing the proprietary information of the U.S. government,” critics contend. The company confirms it has paying customers but refuses to identify them. Trump Media’s spokesperson called all insider trading accusations “absurd.”
