Drew Barrymore suffered a mini food emergency courtesy of one brutal breadstick during Friday’s episode of her talk show. **

The Daytime Emmy-winning host, 50, was preparing to launch into a cooking segment on *The Drew Barrymore Show* with her pals Ross Mathews, Valerie Bertinelli, and Sunny Anderson when she choked on a breadstick just as the show returned from commercial break. In response, Barrymore threw her hands into the air and began to violently cough. **

“I just choked on a breadstick! I’m a cliché!” Barrymore exclaimed as she retched. Leaning on her cohost for help as she recovered from the traitorous gluten, she added, “Rossy, take the intro!”

Mathews began to get Anderson and Bertinelli’s cooking segment back on track, but Barrymore wasn’t over her breadstick betrayal just yet. **

“I couldn’t help myself!” the host said. “They were right here! And I got greedy and I swallowed wrong.”

When Mathews checked in to make sure Barrymore was doing okay, she wiped her nose before breezily replying, “Yeah, I’m fine.”**

Kind of. Mathews restarted the segment and managed to get a little further when Barrymore let out another hefty cough. **

“I’m fine,” she reiterated, waving away everyone’s concerns before getting a drink of water. **

A laughing Mathews added that they were just “choking on a breadstick and chowing down with friends” for the food segment. Barrymore, in response, lifted up the breadstick that tried to kill her and waved it around.

The cooking segment saw Bertinelli and Anderson showcase two simple dishes that would be perfect for a cozy night in with friends. **

“I wanted to go comfort food and just old school nostalgia, because that always makes me feel really comfortable, and this is one of the very first dishes I learned how to make in home ec,” Bertinelli explained. “This is my tuna noodle casserole.”

Barrymore, in response, immediately pulled Bertinelli into a hug. “Honey, I heard,” Bertinelli said. “Oh, baby girl, I love you.”**

“What’s the hug about?” Mathews asked. To which Bertinelli replied, “This is what her mama made for her, no?”**

Barrymore agreed, describing the casserole as "my favorite comfort dish" in the entire world.

“I’m so glad I’m making it for you, because sometimes I feel like your mama," Bertinelli replied. "And sometimes I feel like you’re my mama!”

Barrymore added, “And sometimes we’re sisters! And besties! And all the things!”

*The Drew Barrymore Show* airs weekdays on CBS.
