Love Is Blind season 9 star Megan Walerius detailed her experience with breast explant surgery in a set of candid videos shared to Instagram
Walerius said she first got implants in 2011 and had them redone to be bigger in 2018

Love Is Blind's "Sparkle" Megan Walerius is opening up about her breast explant surgery.
After briefly mentioning the procedure on the show during her reveal day with fellow season 9 contestant Jordan Keltner, Walerius said she's received requests to talk further about the experience. In a set of Instagram videos shared one day apart, the 36-year-old sat down to candidly discuss the process.
"I first got my implants when I was 21," she explained in part one. "I went to Arizona State, and that was just the thing you did. Everybody there is blonde, big boobs. And I wanted to be everybody."
Walerius said she got her first set of implants in 2011, and then in 2018, she decided to have them redone "and get them even bigger."
"My last set of implants I had 550cc, which is pretty big," she recalled. "My body could carry them well, but they were large. I was like a DD."
The reality star explained that it wasn't until a yoga teacher training in 2022 that she started to have issues with her implants. "That was the first time I started to really notice that they didn't feel right in my body. They literally started to feel like a foreign object, because that's what they are," said Walerius.
She also explained that her new holistic lifestyle caused her to focus more intentionally on her health.
"I wasn't feeling my best, so I was really trying to figure out why that was," Walerius said. "And I think that's when I came across a couple other influencers or people online that had had an explant and for the first time I really started to question, like, 'Man, what are these things doing to my body?'"
The mom of one continued, "I think at that time, too, it was kind of when the breast implant illness discussions were kind of beginning. I think it was a little taboo before then, but people started talking about it publicly. And I made the decision that I wanted them out, and I did it within a few months."
Per the Cleveland Clinic, "Breast implant illness (BII) is a collection of symptoms that may be related to breast implants. Though the exact cause isn't known, BII may be related to autoimmune or inflammatory responses." Currently, it is not recognized as an official medical diagnosis, but doctors and researchers continue to study it.

In the beginning of part two, Walerius holds up the actual implants she had removed, explaining that one of the nurses let her keep them. "They sit in my bathroom for me to look at whenever I please," she said.

She went on to admit that before the explant surgery, she was worried about what she would look like without the implants. "It was very intimidating to go from that, and then, you don't know what your boobs are gonna look like after the fact, but I was pleasantly surprised that I had zero regrets," she recalled.
Walerius added that while she "never had super obvious symptoms of breast implant illness," she noticed improvements in her health after she had the implants removed.
"I definitely felt a lot more clarity," she said. "A lot of my fatigue was gone, my hair, skin and nails got a lot stronger, I was sleeping better."
She also said that part of the reason she had the explant surgery was because she "personally did not want my implants in when I had children and attempted breastfeeding."
The star added she would be open to getting a breast lift in the future because her boobs are "starting to look a little pancake-y." Walerius concludes the video saying that having her implants removed was "one of the best decisions I ever made."
Walerius revealed that she had welcomed a baby boy named Brooks with her partner, Paul Wegman, during the Love Is Blind season 9 reunion.
After the announcement, Walerius told PEOPLE that she experienced "a wave of emotions all at once" when she found out she was pregnant.
"I was excited and happy, but also surprised and a little scared," she recalled. "I'd been told by multiple doctors in the past that getting pregnant naturally would likely be very difficult for me because of a congenital condition, so when it happened so quickly, I was a little taken aback."

"I think a part of me still carried the fear that I might not be ready to be a mom," she added. "But I can confidently say that those doubts and fears feel very far away today, and motherhood has easily turned into my favorite and most fulfilling chapter of life thus far."
