Whoâs Who in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms HBO

Heroes are found in the most unlikely places in Westeros. In season two of Game of Thrones (lightly paraphrased from George R.R. Martinâs A Clash of Kings), Lord Varys says to Tyrion Lannister, âPower resides where men believe it resides. It's a trick, a shadow on the wall. And a very small man can cast a very large shadow.â
A century prior, it is a humble young man nearly seven feet tall with no title and no moneyâessentially the complete inverse of Tyrionâwho must overcome appearances and prove his worth.
HBOâs endeavor at building an expanded universe around Game of Thrones continues with the series premiere of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, loosely based on the Tales of Dunk and Egg, a trilogy of novellas. Yes, there are Targaryens. (But no dragons.) There is also a great tourney with many familiar Great Houses, but completely new names for viewers who havenât read The Hedge Knight, the first story in the series.
If youâre struggling to keep track of all the characters in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, or wondering where you recognize the actors from, hereâs a handy guide to the season one cast.

Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan âDunkâ the Tall

Peter Claffey stars as Ser Duncan âDunkâ the Tall, a young hedge knight raised in the slums of Flea Bottom in Kingâs Landing, looking to prove his valor and himself worthy of a knighthood.
The Irish actor has previously appeared in Bad Sisters, Vikings: Valhalla, and Small Things Like These.
Dexter Sol Ansell as Egg

Egg strives to be Dunkâs squire. Heâs a bit stubborn, but also extremely sharp and willing to work.
Ansell previously appeared in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes as a young Coriolanus Snow.
Sam Spruell as Prince Maekar Targaryen

Prince Maekar is a severe man and fearsome warrior who lacks any humor. He is the fourth and last son of King Daeron II Targaryen and his wife, Queen Myriah Martell, neither of whom appear on screen in this season.
Spruell is best known for Fargo, Dune: Prophecy, and Outlaw King.
Finn Bennett as Prince Aerion Targaryen

First noted in A Storm of Swords, there is a saying in Westeros, âEvery time a new Targaryen is born, the gods toss the coin in the air, and the world holds its breath to see how it will land.â There are two sides to the coin: greatness and madness. Aerion Targaryen, also known as âBrightflame,â fell on the madness side.
Bennett has also appeared in True Detective, Black Doves, and The Nevers.
Bertie Carvel as Prince Baelor Targaryen

On the flip side of that coin is Prince Baelor, Prince Maekarâs brother and uncle to Aerion. He is Hand of the King and Heir to the Iron Throne as the eldest son of the current ruler, King Daeron II of House Targaryen. He stands as a rare figure of restraint and patience within this family.
Carvelâs previous credits include The Crown, Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, and Tom Hooperâs Les MisĂ©rables.
Tanzyn Crawford as Tanselle

Tanzyn Crawford plays Tanselle, a member of a puppeteering group from the southern region of Dorne. She becomes a kindred spirit of sorts in the tourney campgrounds for Dunk.
The Australian actress previously appeared in Tiny Beautiful Things and will soon appear in the television adaptation of Assassin's Creed.
Danny Webb as Ser Arlan of Pennytree
Ser Arlan was Dunkâs first and only master to date, and whom Dunk says is the one who knighted him. (In Westeros, the rule is it only takes another knight to bestow a knighthood on another.) His influence shapes Dunkâs understanding of knighthood (and the world) more than any oath.
With nearly 200 credits to his name, Webb has appeared in movies and TV shows such as Alien, Robin Hood, Valkyrie, Doctor Who, and BBCâs Sherlock.
Daniel Ings as Ser Lyonel Baratheon
Ser Lyonel, also known as âThe Laughing Storm,â is the current Lord of Storm's End and the head of House Baratheon. (Heâs the ancestor of King Robert Baratheon and his brothers, Renly and Stannis, from Game of Thrones.) Heâs sly as a fox and loves a good party, but ready for battle at any time.
Ings is best known for The Crown, Sex Education, and The Woman in Cabin 10.
Shaun Thomas as Ser Raymun Fossoway

A stocky but honorable Ser Raymun befriends Dunk after he arrives at the Ashford Meadow tourney. He is also a cousin of and squire for Ser Steffon Fossoway, who is seen as the more prototypical Westerosi knight in comparison.
Thomas was also in Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, How to Have Sex, and The Choral.
Edward Ashley as Ser Steffon Fossoway
Ser Steffon is a dashing knight the heir to House Fossoway of Cider Hall. An ambitious man, he is one of the first entrants in the tourney at Ashford Meadow.
Ashley has also been in The King, Masters of the Air, and The Lost City of Z.
Youssef Kerkour as Steely Pate

Steely Pate is a hard-edged blacksmith (and a bit with a heart of gold) working on the grounds of the Ashford Meadow tournament. Dunk comes to him for help with his shield and armor.
Kerkour recently appeared in Lockerbie: A Search for Truth, House of Gucci, and Ridley Scottâs Napoleon.
Tom Vaughan-Lawlor as Plummer
Plummer is the master of the games for the tourney at Ashford Meadow. He initially rejects Dunkâs request to join, but reconsiders on certain terms.
Vaughan-Lawlor is best known for Peaky Blinders, Say Nothing, and Avengers: Infinity War.
