Paul McCartney opened up about his experience attending Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding in an October 2 interview.

The Beatles icon revealed the surprising request he had for the bride while performing during the star-studded July 3 nuptials.

The musicians have been friends for over a decade.

Paul McCartney put on a once-in-a-lifetime show at Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s July 3 wedding, joining A-list entertainment like Stevie Nicks and Tim McGraw on stage—as well as the bride herself. In a new interview, the Beatles icon dished on the surprising request he had for Swift while performing one of his band’s major breakout hits at the Madison Square Garden nuptials.

The 84-year-old musician broke his silence on attending the star-studded ceremony, details of which have remained largely under wraps, while making an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on October 2. When Kimmel asked if he knew whether he was going to perform going into the evening, McCartney revealed that Swift had personally asked him to sing the band’s classic 1964 song “I Want to Hold Your Hand,” prompting his own romantic request.

“I said, ‘you should sing along, and you should sing it to your man,’” the “Hey Jude” singer recalled telling Swift, inviting her to join him on stage for the love ballad. Kimmel responded, “Seems like reasonable advice.” McCartney hadn’t performed the Beatles song live in 60 years before the wedding, making it a nostalgic musical choice for both him and the attendees.

McCartney stayed mum on other details of the top-secret celebration, which was reportedly attended by 1,000 guests. The two music legends, who were first photographed crossing paths at the 2009 Grammy Awards, have had a longtime friendship. In 2020, McCartney and Swift memorably shared the cover of Rolling Stone, in which they revealed they’d adjusted the release dates for their albums Evermore and McCartney III to avoid overlap.

In addition to supporting each other with appearances during the 2024 Eras Tour and McCartney’s Los Angeles show earlier this year, the Wings frontman became an honorary Kansas City Chiefs fan with the help of Swift. McCartney was spotted cheering on Kelce with the “Patient Zero” singer in the VIP suite at the 2024 Super Bowl.
