Prince William marked a major celebration on Sunday - as not only was it Father's Day, but he also marked his birthday.

The Prince of Wales turned 44 on June 21 following one of the busiest weeks of the royal calendar, with events including Trooping the Color, Garter Day and Royal Ascot. However, as he celebrated turning another year older while being a father to Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, he spent the day with his family.

His 44th birthday signified a new chapter in his and wife Kate's life, with the couple on the other side of her shock cancer diagnosis and treatment after William stood by her every step of the way.

For royal expert Jennie Bond, she believes Kate needed no excuse to make a "fuss" of William on his birthday. She told The Mirror, "William and Catherine have seemed closer than ever, and more open about their feelings, since her cancer diagnosis. A birthday and Father's Day all wrapped up in one weekend must be making for quite a big celebration- all focused on William. And I'm sure he will lap it up!"

She added, "He's proved himself to be a wonderfully loving, loyal husband who clearly adores his 'amazing' wife without whom, he declared, his family 'literally couldn't cope'. You get the impression that, like many women, Catherine is the lynchpin of the family: organising the diary, sorting out the kids' needs and activities."

The royal expert continued, "But, unlike in many previous royal marriages, William is a really hands-on Dad - helping with the chaos of morning routines, doing the school runs, joining in the children's games."

Jennie notes that this dimension of William's family life stands in stark contrast to his own upbringing alongside his father, King Charles.

She suggested William has "drawn a distinct line between himself and his father." Jennie noted that the king wasn't a bad father, but said he was often an "absent parent" due to his busy work life.

Jennie pointed out that despite some criticism, William has made the decision to put his children first "whenever humanly possible" and suggested Kate and their children "love him all the more for that."

The royal expert pointed out how Kate and William seem like equal partners in their relationship, despite the Prince of Wales having been born into the royal family.

In fact, Jennie suggested William is perhaps more dependent on Kate than the other way round.

She concluded, "But she has been open about how much she has valued and needed his support throughout her cancer journey, and that huge shock in their lives has undoubtedly cemented their love and strengthened their marriage."

The Wales family are believed to have marked William's birthday privately at their Windsor home, where thoughtful gifts from Kate and the children reportedly featured prominently in the celebrations.
