The Seattle Seahawks have signed Pro Bowl running back Joe Mixon after the former Cincinnati Bengals and Houston Texans star missed the entire 2025 season with a foot injury. He is said to have impressed in a workout this week, with the Seahawks looking to add a back after losing first-round star Jadarian Price, who will miss at least three games with a chest injury.

The Seahawks have activated their former starter, Zach Charbonnet, who missed their Super Bowl win after sustaining a torn ACL in their second-round playoff win over the San Francisco 49ers. But head coach Mike Macdonald has revealed that he will not play this weekend, giving Mixon the chance to become the starter alongside Charbonnet ahead of his return.

While Mixon is an exciting addition to the team, having scored 11 touchdowns and over 1,000 rushing yards the last time he took to the field, it's a move that general manager John Schneider once said he would never make.

Seen as one of the best running backs to enter the 2017 NFL Draft, Mixon fell out of the first round after damning video footage showed him punching a female student in the face.

The woman was hit so hard by Mixon that her jaw needed to be wired shut. He served a one-year suspension from this during his time at Oklahoma.

While this incident was 12 years ago, it has followed the narrative around Mixon, with Schneider once stating his team would never sign a player involved in such an egregious instance of domestic violence.

Schneider once said, "Suffice it to say, we would never, ever take a player that struck a female or had a domestic dispute like that, or did anything like that."

He then followed that up a few years later, when the team drafted pass-rusher Frank Clark, who was charged with assault for allegedly striking his girlfriend.

When asked if it was still his policy not to bring players in who have hit a female, Schneider said, "Yeah, it still is. I can’t get into all the specifics of Frank’s case, but that is still a deal-breaker for us and will continue to be.”

Schneider quipped that they believed Clark had not hit his girlfriend.

However, the team cannot deny this with Mixon after an extremely damaging and horrific video of the incident was shared.

Since entering the league, Mixon has appeared to avoid controversy, hoping to bounce back with the Seahawks after missing the 2025 season due to injuries.

He could make his debut against the San Francisco 49ers this upcoming weekend.
