Whoopi Goldberg revealed that fans would be âshockedâ by how much she gets paid for The View.
The EGOT winner replied to an inquiry about what she loves about doing the talk show on actress Keke Palmerâs podcast.
âThe check,â Goldberg said. âI love the check.â
Whoopi Goldberg has revealed one thing she really, really likes about moderating The View.
âThe check,â Goldberg said on the Baby, This Is Keke Palmer podcast. âI love the check.â
Just how big is that check, you ask? While the EGOT-winning Hollywood icon didnât reveal specifics about how many zeros are in the number representing her total salary for the long-running talk show (which sheâs moderated since 2007), she suggested to Palmer that the sum is astronomical.

âNo, no, you canât [imagine],â Goldberg told the Hustlers actress. âTrust me. You canât. You would be shocked.â
She added: âAs soon as they showed you that check, youâd be like, âWhat the!?ââ
Goldberg said sheâs grateful to have the opportunity for a steady paystub in life, and that she doesnât take the gig for granted ever since late journalist and View founder Barbara Walters offered her the job nearly 20 years ago.
âI needed a job. Barbara offered me a job. She said, âWe just lost one of the people on the show, would you consider coming over?â And Iâd been doing a radio show, and I said, âAbsolutely, yeah!ââ Goldberg recalled earlier on Palmerâs podcast. âShe brought me over and itâs like Iâve been crazy-glued to that chair!â

The Ghost and Sister Act star added that she takes a moment to âlook around every dayâ before she leaves her house to moderate The Viewâs live shows, to soak up the appreciation she has for regular work.
âI see my family, and I see pictures of folks and I think, âOh, yeah, itâs good to have a job.â And I come to work,â the 70-year-old said. âA lot of people donât have jobs, so, Iâm lucky. I like to talk, I like talking about stuff, I like people. And Iâm okay with what I think I believe. I donât mind doing that. Even when it irritates people? Thatâs what the show is. Itâs not irritation, necessarily, but it is called The View.â
She additionally summed up her persona on the talk show, telling Palmer, âThe public gets me. They donât always like me, but they get me.â
Clearly, Goldberg is doing something right at the Hot Topics table, as sheâs about to usher in the showâs 30th season â nearly 20 of which Goldberg has led as the showâs moderator. She repeatedly makes headlines when the show is in season (itâs currently on a summer hiatus), for everything ranging from her numerous faux collapses on set to her staunch opposition to the Donald Trump administration.
